Idea: Notes on personnel files/applications

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Just had another idea come to mind, basically in the AdminCP we should be able to add notes to soldiers personnel files which only certain user groups can see and the soldiers not see. This would be particularly helpful in the applications module, so we can take notes about the new member etc, i.e we VAC ban check people in our unit so it would be helpful to have an area on their application/personnel file in which we can note down if they are VAC banned etc.

It also would be helpful so we can note down if someone is interested in a particular training or role etc. Like I said, it would be helpful if this can be permission controlled. Maybe add an option so people can select who can read notes, add notes, edit notes & delete notes and a permission to whether the soldier can or cannot see the notes (this should be a global setting).

Hope you all had a good Christmas!

Thanks

Great idea! We'll add that to the next release.

@Ashton take a look at the dev website and see what you think. Feel free to log in and play around with the notes. Login information can be found on the PERSCOM download or product page.

@Jon Erickson Messed around with the notes and seems to be work pretty good. Is there anyway to have a setting which will toggle if the soldier can see the note that has been put about them? But does this on a note to note basis? I.e, a command staff member writes a note about a member and selects to show it the member, it would then appear in there personnel record or as a notification that only the solider and people with PERSCOM admin access can see. On the flip side, we should also be able to write a note and select so the solider cannot see the note and this should just appear in PERSCOM Admin. Hope that makes sense.

Also, I discharged the demo user to see if we could add notes to applications when they apply that new applicants cant see, pretty much like how you have the soldiers one working, but per application, however, me not thinking straight discharged them and its changed there group so lost access to the Admin CP. Apologies dude, my bad. However, is this feature available yet or possible? I think it would help a lot of units recruitment teams if they could leave private notes on people applications.

Thanks for implementing this, its getting more awesome by the day.

Cheers!

@Jon Erickson Just done some playing around with the notes and its working awesome, apart from one thing, if you select for the soldier to not view the note when entered it doesn't display on their personnel record as intended, however if you then go back to the note and edit it so the soldier can view it doesn't then show on their personnel record and stays hidden. I don't know if this is intentional or just the way IPB is working or not.

Thanks!

@Ashton I just removed the 'Soldier can view?' option. It was redundant. You can use the native IPS permissions system to only show the note to an administrator group to prevent the soldier from seeing it!

Would that still allow us to show individual notes to soldiers and hide others from them? Or would this be a global IPS Permission of everyone can see notes or only admins can see notes?

Thanks

At this point, notes are being managed by IPS' native permissions system which is group based. This means, if the note is visible to lets say, the Members group, every person in the Members group will be able to see it. IPS doesn't integrate well with individual based permissions. I can definitely see the advantage here and will look into it.

Okay dude, thanks for clarifying that. It would be definitely be an advantage if we can set the notes individual view settings in the future! Thanks for the implementation though, its awesome!
